• There are 40 state senators in Florida. They serve ​staggered 4-year terms with a limit of 2 consecutive ​terms.

• The Florida State Senate is the upper chamber of the ​Florida State Legislature. Alongside the Florida House ​of Representatives, it forms the legislative branch of ​the Florida state government and works alongside the ​governor of Florida to create laws and establish a ​state budget.
  

• Legislative authority and responsibilities of the Florida ​State Senate include passing bills on public policy ​matters, setting levels for state spending, raising ​and lowering taxes, and voting to uphold or override ​gubernatorial vetoes
  

The winner faces Democrat nominee Stephanie Dukes on November 5.

This is an open primary for all voters. The winner takes the seat in Tallahassee.
